FAQ

When to plant flowers

When the weather is milder and the soil has a good moisture content, spring is the best time to plant flowers. If you live somewhere cold, planting flowers should be done before the first frost. The ideal temperature for growing plants indoors is around 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

Which seeds should you start indoors?

A tomato seed makes the best seed for indoor planting. Tomatoes produce year-round fruit and are easy to plant. When growing tomatoes in pots, be careful when transplanting them into the ground. Planting too soon can cause soil to dry out and root rot. Plant diseases like bacterial disease can quickly kill plants.

When should you plant herbs?

Spring should be when the soil temperature reaches 55 degrees F. The best results are achieved when they are in full sunshine. For basil indoors, plant seedlings in potting mix-filled pots and let them grow until they produce leaves. When plants are growing, place them in bright indirect lighting. After about three weeks, transplant them to individual containers and continue to water them regularly.

How much space do vegetable gardens need?

The rule of thumb is to use 1/2 pound seed per square foot. For example, if you have a 10 foot by 10 foot area (3 meters by three meters), 100 pounds of seeds will be required.

Can I grow vegetables indoors

Yes, you can grow vegetables inside in the winter. A greenhouse or grow light will be required. Before you do this, make sure to verify the local laws.

Can I plant fruit trees in pots

Yes! Yes! To prevent tree rot, make sure the pot has drainage holes. The pot should be deep enough to hold the rootball. This will stop the tree becoming stressed.

How To

How to grow basil

Basil is one of the most versatile herbs you can use in your kitchen. Basil is great to add flavor to dishes, sauces or pastas. Here are some tips for growing basil indoors at home.

  1. It is important to choose the right location. Basil is an annual plant and will only live one season if it's not in the right place. It can tolerate partial shade but prefers full sun. If you want to grow it outside choose an area that is well-ventilated.
  2. Plant the seeds. Basil seeds should not be planted more than two weeks prior to the last frost date. You should sow the seeds at a depth of 1/2 inch in small pots. Cover the pots with clear plastic wrap and keep the pots in a warm area out of direct sunlight. Germination usually takes about ten days. Once germinated, move the pots into a shaded area where temperatures stay around 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. Once they are large enough to handle, transfer the seedlings. The plastic wrap should be removed and the seedlings transplanted into larger containers. Add potting mix to each container. As necessary, you can add more potting material. Place the containers outside in direct light or in a sunny area. Keep the plants hydrated to avoid wilting.
  4. Apply a thick layer mulch to the top of your plants after the danger of frost has passed. This will protect them from cold weather and reduce water loss.
  5. Regularly water the plants. Basil needs to be hydrated regularly to ensure its survival. You can use a rain gauge or a water gauge to determine the amount of water that your plants need. Also, use a timer to turn off the irrigation system during dry spells automatically.
  6. You should pick your basil at its peak. Pick leaves frequently to encourage bushier growth.
  7. Use paper towels to dry leaves. The leaves can be stored in glass jars or bags in their refrigerator.
