FAQ

What's the best way to keep my indoor plant alive?

Indoor plants can live for many years. To promote new growth, it is essential to repot your indoor plants every few month. Repotting is easy. All you have to do is remove the soil and put in fresh compost.

How can I find out what type of soil my house has?

By looking at the dirt's color, you can tell. Organic matter is more abundant in dark soils than those with lighter colors. Soil testing is another option. These tests determine the amount of nutrients in the soil.

What vegetables do you recommend growing together?

It is possible to grow tomatoes and peppers together, as they like the same soil conditions and temperatures. They complement each other well since tomatoes need heat to ripen while peppers require cooler temperatures for optimal flavor. Start seeds indoors approximately six weeks prior to planting. Once the weather cools down, transplant the pepper or tomato plants outdoors.

What should you do first when you start a garden?

Preparing the soil is the most important step in starting a garden. This includes adding organic matter such as composted manure, grass clippings, leaves, straw, etc., which helps provide plant nutrients. Next, plant seeds or seedlings into prepared holes. Then, water well.

How many hours of light does a plant need?

It all depends on what kind of plant you have. Some plants need 12 hours of direct sun per day. Others prefer 8 hours of indirect sunlight. The majority of vegetables require 10 hours of direct sunshine per 24 hour period.

When to plant flowers

Planting flowers during springtime is best when temperatures are warm and the soil feels moist. If you live somewhere cold, planting flowers should be done before the first frost. The ideal temperature for growing plants indoors is around 60 degrees Fahrenheit.

What kind of lighting works best for growing plants indoors?

Because they emit less heat, floralescent lights are great for indoor gardening. They also provide consistent lighting without flickering or dimming. Fluorescent bulbs come in both compact fluorescent (CFL) and regular varieties. CFLs consume up to 75% less electricity than traditional bulbs.

How To

Use organic fertilizers in your garden

Organic fertilizers are made from natural substances such as manure, compost, fish emulsion, seaweed extract, guano, and blood meal. The term "organic" refers to using non-synthetic materials in their production. Synthetic fertilizers can be used in industrial processes. They are widely used in agriculture because they provide nutrients to plants quickly and efficiently without requiring laborious preparation methods. However, synthetic fertilizers present risks to both the environment- and human health. Synthetic fertilizers require large amounts of energy as well as water to be produced. Runoff from synthetic fertilizers can also pollute groundwater and surface water. This pollution can be harmful for both wildlife and humans.

There are several kinds of organic fertilisers:

* Manure - produced when livestock eat food containing nitrogen (a plant nutrient). It is made up of bacteria and enzymes, which break down the waste into simpler compounds that can be absorbed easily by plants.

* Compost is a mixture of vegetable scraps and grass clippings, animal manure, and decaying leaves. It is rich with nitrogen, phosphorus. potassium, calcium. magnesium. sulfur. iron. copper. manganese. molybdenum. chlorine. and carbon. It is highly porous, so it holds moisture well and releases nutrients slowly.

* Fish Emulsion: A liquid product derived primarily from fish oil. It can dissolve oils and fats, similar to soap. It contains phosphorous, nitrogen, and trace elements.

* Seaweed Extract – A concentrated solution containing minerals extracted from kelp. It provides a source of vitamins A and C, iodine, and iron.

* Guano is the excrement of seabirds and bats. It contains nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, sodium, magnesium, sulfate, chloride, and carbon.

* Blood Meal - the remains of slaughtered animals. It's rich in protein and can be used to feed poultry and other animals. It also contains trace mineral, phosphorus as well as potassium, nitrogen, and phosphorus.

For organic fertilizer mix equal amounts of manure, compost and/or fishemulsion. Mix thoroughly. If you don’t possess all three ingredients you can substitute one for the other. You can mix one part of the fish emulsion with two portions of compost if you don't have enough.

To apply the fertilizer, spread it evenly over the soil using a shovel or tiller. About a quarter of a cup of the fertilizer is needed per square foot. You will need to add more fertilizer every two weeks until you see signs of new growth.
